The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are an Indian Premier League franchise cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu (IPL).
The team was founded in 2008 and plays its home games at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After serving a two-year suspension from the IPL beginning in July 2015 for alleged involvement of their owners in the 2013 IPL betting case, the Chennai Super Kings returned to the league in 2018, winning the championship for the third time to tie Mumbai Indians for the most IPL title wins. Ravindra Jadeja leads the team as captain
According to the Brand Finance Report, the Super Kings' brand value in 2018 was estimated to be $65 million, making them the most valuable franchise in the IPL.
According to the report, one of the major boosts for IPL this year was not only an increase in television viewership of 11% but also the fact that over 200 million people watched the tournament on digital platforms such as Hotstar.
“Cricket fans who did not obtain tickets to attend the games in person could watch the action in 36 specially designated Fan Parks across the country. Fan Parks, which were family-friendly and free to all, provided music, entertainment, and a variety of merchandise stalls, bringing stadium atmosphere to city centers on a larger scale than ever before " — Brand Finance report.
On September 26, 2014, India Cement approved the demerger of Chennai Super Kings, a BCCI-IPL Franchise 20/20 Cricket Tournament Team, into a wholly-owned subsidiary through the transfer of its net assets at cost. As a result, a new wholly-owned subsidiary will be formed on January 1, 2015. CSK shareholders will receive one share of CSK for each share of India Cement. On October 9, 2015, the date set for allotment of the shares, India Cements transferred its holding of CSK to the India Cements Shareholder's Trust. The company's shareholders received one share for every India Cements share they owned. However, since that time, CSK and Rajasthan Royals have been suspended for two years because their respective team principals Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra were found to be involved in suspicious betting activity

CSK has the best track record in the IPL, having won the title four times (in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021) and having the highest win percentage of matches among all IPL teams (59.83 percent). Because of CSK's past glory, demand for unlisted shares rises just before the start of the IPL, as investors predict that CSK will either win the tournament or finish in the top four. Furthermore, whenever CSK wins or finishes in the top four, the CSK share price rises in the unlisted market.
The analogy is very simple; if you look at the IPL business model, if a team performs well, their rating and brand value rise, which raises the team's valuation or per share value. Furthermore, if CSK wins an IPL, the CSK share price will rise.
